The Batman Part 2 can wait, DC just dropped a gorgeous new Batman movie teaser

We can't wait!

This gorgeous new Batman film teaser might just be the next best DC project to look forward to after Superman.

The Batman was one of 2022’s best films, serving as an excellent reboot of the character without all of the extra baggage of tying into a wider shared universe.

It’s meant that a lot of fans are eagerly awaiting its follow-up, titled for now as The Batman Part 2. It’s expected to start filming early next year with a 2027 release.

In the meantime, however, we’re getting a new animated DC Batman film from Warner Bros., and it’s something we’re all looking forward to now.

Warner Bros. has released the first posters for Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios, which translates to Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires. It’s basically a new take on the Batman mythos, using Aztec theming as inspiration.

It’s about a young boy called Yohualli Coatl, whose father is killed by the Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés. He then takes up the Batman persona to fight for justice and exact revenge.

Cortés, a real figure in Spanish history, is being portrayed as this film’s version of Two-Face, the classic Batman villain who has appeared in multiple films, comics, and video games.

Alongside him is Yoka, who is this canon’s interpretation of the Joker, as well as what appears to be a new version of Poison Ivy and a whole host of other Batman characters.

Batman Azteca marks a collaboration between Warner Bros. Animation and Ánima, a Mexican animation studio.

From the released material so far, it looks like the animation is going to be quite different from what you’re used to seeing with DC animated films, and we’re excited to see how it turns out.

Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios is getting a wide release in cinemas, and is expected to release on 18th September, 2025.
