The Batman Part 2 Surprise Tease Isn’t What We Were Expecting

Anyone figured out how to time travel to 2027 yet?

Two of the main stars behind both The Batman and The Penguin have teased what their roles will be in the upcoming sequel to Matt Reeves 2022 film, The Batman Part II.

It’s been a long wait, but we finally received confirmation back in June that the script for The Batman Part II is complete, and it’s aiming for an October 2027 release date.

A five year gap in between films isn’t exactly unheard of, but it may as well be a century for comic book movie fans, which is why we were lucky to be treated to the 2024 TV series The Penguin during the wait.

Given how The Penguin ended (don’t worry, no spoilers), it was pretty obvious that Colin Farrell would reprise his role in The Batman Part II, but a post from The Production List outright confirmed that he would also be joined by Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright (as Alfred and Commissioner Gordon, respectively).

In a recent interview with The Wrap’s Drew Taylor, Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti (who played Sofia Falcone in The Penguin) spoke about their roles in the upcoming DC film, and both of their answers are interesting for different reasons.

“I’ll be getting into the script, I think, this week, and I’ll be there for however long,” Farrell revealed.

“I don’t have many scenes, I don’t believe, but I’ll be there for whatever. Matt Reeves is so brilliant. I don’t know what the story is yet. I just know that obviously Matt has slaved for a few years now to really make something special.”

Makes sense. The Penguin was sort of treated as an extended cameo in the first film, so it sounds like director Matt Reeves is setting the character up in a way that will lead to him appearing in all three films in the trilogy (much in the same way that Cillian Murphy reprised his role as The Scarecrow in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy).

However, Milioti’s answer was far more non-committal… which in a way, gives us our answer.

“I would really love to revisit her. I want to play her again,” Milioti replied in regards to her “potential return to Gotham”.

Sounds to me like Sofia Falcone won’t be in The Batman Part II, but that there’s a good chance she may return in the second season of The Penguin (which both Farrell and Reeves half-revealed back in November).

I’m not sure if I can wait until 2027 for this. Reeves has to throw us a trailer or something by 2026.

Well, at least there’s Supergirl and Clayface to look forward to.
