Batman: Arkham Knight Successor Teases A Much Larger Open-World

A bigger open-world means more room for Riddler trophies...

Batman: Arkham Knight was an impressive visual showcase that turned Gotham City into a playground, but it’ll soon be outdone.

If you tuned into this year’s Gamescom, you’ll have no doubt seen that a new Batman game is on the way: LEGO Batman: Legacy Of The Dark Knight. Be sure to read our hands-on preview of the game for our initial thoughts.

While previous LEGO Batman games have told original stories, this one will adapt some of the most popular content from the caped crusader’s long film, television, comic book, and gaming history, going as far forward as Matt Reeves’ The Batman film. It’ll also take inspiration from one of the greatest superhero trilogies of all-time…

Legacy Of The Dark Knight’s gameplay will essentially adapt the Arkham trilogy's combat, stealth and open-world exploration into LEGO form, with intense combat encounters and even the reintroduction of Riddler trophies.

It’ll also be bigger than what Rocksteady Studios created for Batman: Arkham Knight. In that game, Batman has three islands of Gotham City to explore via either the Batmobile or from gliding/grappling.

In Legacy Of The Dark Knight, there’ll apparently be four islands to explore, and more options for how to traverse them. It’s said the southern island will be the largest of the four.

Aside from the aforementioned Riddler trophies/challenges, there’ll likely also be some side missions, criminal encounters and locations where new suits for Batman can be found and collected.

Personally, I’m excited to play the missions inspired by Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. Matt Berry being cast as Bane was a stroke of genius.

The bad news is we have a long wait ahead of us before we can play the game for ourselves, as it is due for release in 2026.

That said, I’m sure it’ll be worth it.
