LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is set to launch very soon, on 22 May to be exact.

The sprawling, open-world title is set to be a treasure trove of Easter eggs, as it pays homage to the most beloved comics, films, television series, and games within the Batman pantheon.

It’s arguably the successor to the Batman: Arkham trilogy that many gamers have been waiting for, marking the return of many familiar side activities including those pesky Riddler puzzles.

While there’s no runtime yet available for the game, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight has been confirmed to feature a map larger than Arkham Knight’s.

In fact, players will be able to explore four of Gotham’s islands.

Ahead of the game’s upcoming launch, GAMINGbible had the opportunity to catch up with the voice behind the caped crusader himself Shai Matheson, who revealed the “unreal” pressure at taking on such an iconic role.

“It’s all the pressure in the world and then some,” Shai told us.

“The pressure is unreal, but all you can do is go, ‘Okay, I can never live up to the people that have done it before.’ These iconic people who have played the character in voice, on screen, on TV. So you just try your best and hope that people like it.”

He continued, “I think the homage will come from me having grown up watching these films. I was such a big Batman film fan. It sort of is just sort of in the system. It's my favourite character of all time, so I can't believe I'm playing him. And then you sort of leave that to the side, try not to do any of those [versions], and just do what feels natural.”

“When I actually came to the audition, I did what I thought was a Batman voice, and then later on, one of the developers was like, ‘What we loved was you did a very different, unique Batman voice. It didn't sound like anyone else.’ I was like, ‘Yeah … that's what I meant to do,’” Shai joked.

Naturally, we had to ask Shai what he could tell us of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight’s many Easter eggs.

“You know, I can't tease anything, but it really is a love letter,” he said.

“It's everything a Batman fan can hope to see. If you're a comic fan or if you're a movie fan, if you're an Arkham games fan, there's something for every Batman fan in it. But also at the same time, if you're an eight-year-old kid and you've never played Batman before, you've never seen a movie, you'll fall in love with Batman, and that will be your first Batman experience. There's something for everyone in it.”

We Went Hands-On With LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight At Gamescom 2025

“TT Games has seemingly managed to pull off an aesthetic that is quintessentially LEGO whilst also maintaining the gritty realism of Gotham City,” we said.

“Plus there are new difficulty options this time around, eradicating the criticism of those who say LEGO titles are off-puttingly easy.

“I’m not making it subtle that I’m well and truly on the hype train, but I totally believe LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight deserves such hopeful anticipation.

“Based on what I’ve played, exploring Gotham has never felt so good. I sense that 2026 may have just gained another banger.”
