Head of the DCU, James Gunn, has commented on the casting of Batman, saying that he has some kind of shortlist in mind when looking for the next Bruce Wayne.
The casting of the DCU Batman is getting closer each day, and fans are eager to find out who will be putting on the cowl next.
As a hero and pop culture icon, Batman has become one of the most beloved comic book superheroes, and over the years has been played by myriad actors.
Since James Gunn took on the future of DC Comics filmic outings, he has been very open about his intentions, which has caused fans to wonder who he has in mind for Batman.

Revealed on The Ringer-Verse, Gunn commented on his shortlist of actors for The Dark Knight, hinting that one big name actor has his eyes on the role.
When asked the burning question, Gunn remarked, “I have guys I like. I have guys that are at the top of the list.”
Of course, the director isn’t going to be giving the game away and revealing who has crossed his mind, but he does go on to say more.
“One actor in particular… a pretty big star, wants to be Batman,” Gunn reveals, “We’ve talked about it, but I don’t think that’s the case.”

It’s hard to know who he is alluding to, and fans will have their guesses, but it doesn’t sound like DC Studios will be moving ahead with that ‘big star’ anyway.
Given Gunn’s track record, it’s likely the next Batman will be a lesser known name, or an up-and-coming actor who can gain more ground with the role.
The DCU will slowly fill out over time, as we know that Gunn is also eyeing a new Wonder Woman for his cinematic universe, too.
