The Witcher 3 surprise new expansion has fans seriously torn

Would you buy it?

A new rumour suggests that The Witcher 3 might be getting a third expansion, and fans are torn.

Shortly after its release in 2015, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt received two expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

After those two expansions were done and dusted, CD Projekt RED considered the game complete and moved onto other productions.

However, it did return to polish the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022 with a next-gen update, which also introduced some new content to tie-in with the Netflix show.

Now, a new rumour suggests that The Witcher 3 might actually be getting a new expansion from the same team that’s working on the remake of the original The Witcher.

“A couple of quests that bridge the gap between 3 and 4? Sure,” wrote one fan on Reddit. “Full on expansion so late? Hard to believe tbh.”

Another commenter added: “Funny enough I said as a grain of salt prediction last week that the secret Fool's Theory game was a Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, so I honestly do see where they are coming from.”

“As long as it doesn't take place at the end of the game. Let Geralt enjoy his retirement dammit,” a third comment wrote.

Considering Fool’s Theory is currently developing the remake of The Witcher, I could definitely see this being a cross-promotional tie-in for that.

We’ve got mods that already bring The Witcher content into The Witcher 3, after all.

But something official that acts as a throwback to the original game, while also meaningfully fitting with the context of The Witcher 3? We’d welcome it.

The Witcher 4 and The Witcher Remake are still probably a few years off yet, so this new expansion could be something to add to CD Projekt’s financial portfolio in the meantime.
