Modern Warfare 4 campaign length reveal and mission list
With the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 fast approaching, we're breaking down the campaign length, confirmed mission list, locations, characters and everything else you need to know.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is the latest release in Activision's massive military shooter series and a sequel to 2023's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III. However, unlike the previous reimaginings of the Modern Warfare series, MW4 is an entirely new game with an original campaign story to tell.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches next week, on October 23, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Furthermore, for the first time since Call of Duty: Ghosts launched on the Nintendo Wii U in 2013, the series is returning to a Nintendo console with a release on Switch 2.

How long is the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign?
That hasn't been officially confirmed by Activision or the developers at Infinity Ward at the time of writing. However, based on the previous three Modern Warfare games, you could be looking at anywhere between three and 10 hours, depending on your playstyle and chosen difficulty setting.

Of course, the time it takes to complete the Modern Warfare 4 story will also vary depending on your chosen difficulty, from easiest to hardest: Recruit, Regular, Hardened and Veteran.
It may also take longer if you're the type of gamer who likes to search the map for collectables and unlock achievements or trophies. We'll have a much clearer picture following the game's launch.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 campaign mission list
Activision and Infinity Ward haven't revealed the full campaign mission list at the time of writing. However, we do know that we'll be visiting North and South Korea, France (Paris), the USA (New York) and Mumbai (India).
Modern Warfare 4 is expected to have around 12 missions in total. These are the missions that have been confirmed so far:
- Entrenched (Hajin City, South Korea)
- Stranded (North Korea)

All confirmed main characters in Modern Warfare 4
While there will be a host of characters featured in Modern Warfare 4, let's focus on the main stars of the show, or at least the characters confirmed so far.
The confirmed main characters in Modern Warfare 4 are:
- Captain John Price (MW1, MW2 and MW3)
- Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley (MW1 — mentioned at the end — MW2 and MW3)
- Valeria Garza, aka El Sin Nombre (MW2 and MW3)
- Private Jae-Young Park (a new character in the series)
