The Witcher 3 DLC-Sized Expansion Is a Brilliant New Game Mode

New monster hunting opportunities

The Witcher 3 players can now enjoy a brand new DLC-sized expansion titled 'Wild Monster Hunt', and it should add some extra longevity to the game.

Now over 10 years old, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains as one of the best open-world RPGs you can play at the moment.

Not only is the base game fantastic, but CD Projekt RED also developed several very rather well-received expansions.

But it hasn’t stopped there, as fan-made mods are also giving The Witcher 3 an extra lease of life, and that’s certainly the case for The Witcher 3: Wild Monster Hunt.

'Wild Monster Hunt' is a mod created by The Witcher 3 modder Aeltoth, which aims to enhance the actual monster hunting experience in the game.

Geralt is a witcher, after all, and therefore monster hunting should be a core part of the game experience. And while the base version of The Witcher 3 certainly has those elements, this mod enhances it further to really make you feel like a witcher.

Check out a video for the mod below, which showcases some of the features the 'Wild Monster Hunt' DLC brings.

The mod adds a custom map featuring a Witcher camp for you to upgrade, and also adds new mechanics that will “spice things up during your hunts”. It essentially allows you to deck it out with new features and advantages to aid with monster hunting.

The new map is described as “roughly the size of Toussaint from the Blood & Wine DLC”, and features all manner of monsters and beasts from the game that you’ll be able to hunt.

How this works is you pick up a contract, which is procedurally-generated, and you’ll be sent to a certain location in which you need to hunt the beast. Your reward is gear and money, which you can use to either upgrade your camp to get stronger, or take with you back to the main game.

Aeltoth

It’s a system that Aeltoth likens to the Monster Hunter games from Capcom, where you get a hunting ground to hunt monsters while also gaining progression in the longer term. They also recommend it for anyone who already completed The Witcher 3, and would prefer a new location to explore.

Altogether, it definitely seems like a good choice for anyone who has beaten the game and wants a little extra challenge on top of it. The Witcher 3 is already a massive game, but there will always be sickos (like me) that will enjoy this extra game mode.

You can download The Witcher 3: Wild Monster Hunt from Nexus Mods now.
