Skyrim bizarre NPC behaviour has left everyone making the same joke

Something is brewing in Tamriel

It still amazes me after all these years that players are still making discoveries in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, such as this subtle but fantastic detail featured in this article.

Originally released in 2011 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, before being ported to many other systems over the generations, Bethesda’s Skyrim is one of the most beloved fantasy RPGs of all time and to this very day, it remains as popular as ever.

Check out the Skyrim Anniversary Edition trailer below!

What’s more, thanks to the ever-vibrant modding community, new content is always being added, whether it's story missions, visual and gameplay overhauls, or infamous Bethesda-bug fixes.

We simply can't get enough of this entry in The Elder Scrolls series.

However, modding aside, today’s Skyrim story relates to the base game with no enhancements made. It’s about a simple NPC going about his everyday life.

“In all my years and hours playing this game I’ve never seen a guard doing this,” said Redditor doug-demuro-is-daddy, sharing an image of what looks to be a Whiterun Hold guard up to something, maybe on his lunch break.

So, what is this guard up to, I hear you ask? Well, it seems like he’s brewing his own ale/skooma. Fair play Mr Skyrim guard, fair play.

“He got tired of asking you to brew him an ale, so he is making one himself,” joked Scape_Brick in response.

“I always wanted to give that guy a drink,” replied phoenixrose2.

“Fancy yourself an alchemist hmm?” asked nord_sword1711

“Sometimes the munchies hit hard,” said Upbeat_Ruin, suggesting that the guard may have a sudden hunger surge for whatever reason.

Hopefully, by the time The Elder Scrolls VI greets us with its presence, it will provide us with as many lasting memories as Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is out now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. It’s also included in Xbox Game Pass at no extra cost.
