Red Dead Redemption 2 has a super secret ending that's breaking fans' hearts

"Guess we're just about done, my friend"

I've played Red Dead Redemption 2 multiple times and spent hundreds of hours exploring its huge open world, and I'm somehow only just discovering the game has a super secret final ending. And it's good, too.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a game that's full of secrets, of course. Rockstar Games' massive open world is one filled with things to discover, so much so that getting a 100 percent completion rate can be a seriously daunting task. However, it turns out there's an amazing reward for finishing every challenge the game throws at you.

Take a look at some of the best Red Dead Redemption 2 wins and fails below!

Before we go any further I should probably warn you we'll be discussing late-game spoilers for Red Dead Redemption 2. I can only assume you're okay with this since you clicked on an article specifically about the game's ending, but you know how weird people get.

Okay, so it turns out there's a completely optional final ending with John Marston during the game's epilogue that takes place after the encounter with Dutch and Micah. Red Dead Redemption 2 doesn't require you do and see literally everything in the game to unlock this secret ending, but there is a hefty list of requirements. Among other things you'll need to finish all the stranger missions, find every collectible, hunt every animal and fish, and discover every point of interest. There are also challenges to complete, which you can track via the menu.

Once you've done all this, you'll automatically be taken to an incredibly touching cutscene in which John visits Arthur's grave. "Guess we're just about done, my friend," John remarks as he stares out across the wild expanse below him. It's incredibly brief, but a lovely little surprise for those who put the effort in to get 100 percent.

"That scene really makes you appreciate the game's story even more," one Reddit user observed.

Others, like myself, had no idea this ending was even in the game. There are a ton of games to play these days, after all, and as much as I'd love to I can't stick around and 100 percent everything.

"I wasn't aware of such a cutscene," another fan added. "I've just made 100% completion few minutes ago and I got goosebumps when I saw it. What a game. Absolute masterpiece!"
