There are few things more impressive than a well-polished open world. A world that’s filled with secrets, details, and generally feels alive. One that you could just wander around in virtually forever and not get bored.

Over on Reddit, gamers have been discussing their favourite open worlds, and despite some fierce competition from the likes of Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West, the majority agree that Red Dead Redemption 2’s is the greatest, with many concluding that it’s “not even close”.

Take a look at some of the funniest wins and fails from Red Dead Redemption 2 below.

“Red Dead Redemption 2 won best open world the minute I stopped to watch the animals and actually saw a hawk go and hunt a snake and fly off with it,” ricky-robie commented.

Others agree: “Red Dead has the best open world, mainly because of its scope but also how natural the world feels. It feels as though the events of the open world are actually happening regardless of your interaction,” Mr_Mortus wrote. “Rockstar [is] amazing at making you feel like a part of a place, not just from what you see in world design and how detailed the people are, but characters referencing places, what’s around them throughout the game and interacting with the world to make places actually feel important and tangible. That’s down to great writing along with the artists creating everything we see.” added xGunners94x.

Red Dead Redemption 2’s vast open world has certainly provided way more discoveries in the five years since the game’s release than any of us could have ever imagined - some stuff is still being uncovered by fans to this day. It’s hard to imagine how Rockstar Games will ever be able to top it, to be honest, but I can’t wait to see the devs try.
