A rare open world event in Red Dead Redemption 2 has left fans horrified, with some not even knowing this could happen.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is the game that keeps on giving. You could play the game every day for a year, and still find interesting things in it that you’ve never seen before.

And some of these hidden details are known to be quite horrifying in their implications. Consider it to be Rockstar Games’ way of adding horror elements to its open-world titles, as one fan recently learned.

One fan recently posted a screenshot on Reddit from their playthrough of the second game. The image depicts an abandoned cart surrounded by corpses in the middle of the swamp area in Lemoyne.

“WTF is this??” reads the post. “Been playing this game for four years and never once seen it before.”

The answer is Night Folk, a faction of killers that appear in this area of Red Dead Redemption 2 during nighttime segments.

You typically encounter them in areas where they’ve set up traps, where they’ll try to prevent you from escaping on your horse as they attack with bows and melee weapons. Pretty gruesome stuff.

“This game has been out for years and there are still places that I avoid: Murfree country at night and The Bayou at any time,” reads a comment in the post replies.

“Go around the bayou at night, and if you come across that they'll ambush you,” advised another user. “Nite folk and zombies from undead nightmare are the only things that really give me the heeby jeebies.”

“Every once in a while this game goes from cowboy simulator to survival horror simulator,” a third comment reads.

Depending on how much time you spend in the bayou part of the map, you may have come across Night Folk pretty consistently, or have never seen them before. Either way, make sure you’re prepared whenever you cross into Night Folk territory.
