A new Red Dead Redemption 2 mod has given us a happier ending for Arthur and the gang.
Red Dead Redemption 2 remains one of the most memorable video game stories of all time, and that’s largely down to the impact of the ending before you move into the epilogue.
We’ll prop up a major spoiler warning here, in case anyone hasn’t been able to finish Red Dead Redemption 2 in the eight years since its release (good lord, has it really been nearly a decade?).
For years, Red Dead Redemption 2 players have tried their absolute best to try and save Arthur Morgan, who succumbs to tuberculosis in the sixth chapter of the game before it heads into the epilogue.
Advert
Arthur is a popular character with fans of the series, and so his death comes as quite the shock when it occurs at that point in the story, before we’re handed control of John Marston in the epilogue.
It’s become one of those situations where players have tried their best to save Arthur in repeat playthroughs, doing anything they can to avoid him from contracting tuberculosis and dying from it.
Sorry, Red Dead Redemption 2 Players, Arthur Is A Gonner
Unfortunately, in the end there’s nothing you can really do to save Arthur except not continuing the story. The narrative is specifically designed to head in that direction, for better or worse, so you can't change Arthur's fate. It's not like GTA V, which has three different, distinct endings for its characters.

However, this new mod may change things for you.
Arthur Free Roam Unlocker by somncoitus is a new mod which automatically cures Arthur’s tuberculosis and opens up access to locked areas of the map from Arthur’s side of the story.
This means opening up New Austin and West Elizabeth, disabling the sniper that enforces the region lockdown, as well as removing restrictions related to ‘dead or alive’ and ‘wanted’ zones.
It also works alongside the Camp Switcher mod, also by somncoitus, which lets you change the gang camp to any location from the story, including areas from earlier in the game. If you’re in Chapter 5, and wanted to go back to Horseshoe Overlook or Clemens Point, you now can.
Anyway, it should mean that players can now get a happier ending for Arthur in Red Dead Redemption 2, one where he doesn’t die of a horrible debilitating illness and instead lives a long life free of the law.
