Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire remake is so gorgeous we could cry

Oh, it's beautiful

Pokémon fans are in love with a remake of Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire, and it’s a crying shame this isn’t how all the remakes are made.

While I adore Gen IV with all my heart, a close second for my favourite Pokémon Gen is probably Gen III, specifically Pokémon Emerald.

There’s something about the world design and the varied list of ‘mon you can find that really speaks to me, and I’d love to see it get a port or remake for the Nintendo Switch one day.

Technically we already have a remake with Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire, both fine games but needed a few more tweaks to be perfect.

If you want an idea of what a new remake for Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire could look like, look no further than a YouTube video by ArcSin Jesse, who made an Unreal Engine 5 version of the game using Pokémon Scarlet & Violet as a base.

The remake is fully 3D, and while it’s only a demo so it’s a little rough around the edges, it’s not half bad.

It uses the capture and battle system of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, which lends itself pretty well to the older games, though I’ve said before and I’ll say it again I much preferred it when Pokémon games used sprites rather than 3D models.

Either way, ArcSin Jesse has done a fine job here, and while Unreal Engine 5 isn’t the most popular game engine out there at the moment, it clearly has potential for Pokémon games.

The Pokémon Company clearly doesn’t value remakes though; we saw as much with Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, possibly one of the biggest blunders the company has released in recent years.

Hopefully, which ever game gets remade next will be better, but I think we can all agree Pokémon needs an HD-2D style remake at some point
