PlayStation Plus free games for May 2023 could be a huge month for subscribers

Looking ahead to May, we've compiled our PlayStation Plus predictions and it could be a major month for subscribers.

Who’s already looking ahead to PlayStation Plus’ May line-up? It shouldn’t be too long until we find out what’s next to join the essential tier. We’re several weeks away from a full update on the extra and premium tier catalogues though.

To recap, April’s essential tier line-up includes Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Tails of Iron and day one release Meet Your Maker. If you do opt to download Sackboy, make sure to head on over to the PlayStation Store to grab the free DLC that’s available (there’s over 40). Extra and premium subscribers gained 16 new games this month, with the standout title being the highly-requested Kena: Bridge of Spirits. If you’re yet to check it out, I urge you to. With so many games now on the platform, you may be wondering: What’s next? Well, we know that another day one release is on the way, but let’s take a look at some May predictions.

Have you checked out March’s extra tier day one release Tchia? It’s a delight.

PlayStation Plus has worked wonders for Days Gone in recent weeks. The game has been on the platform for some time now but for whatever reason, it’s finally resonating with players. For that reason, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw last year’s Saints Row headline PlayStation Plus’ May line-up. It’s no secret that the title suffered at launch, landing a rating of just 61 on Metacritic. Developers have laid out an extensive road map for 2023 though. A PS Plus feature could bring in fresh eyes to revitalise interest in the franchise, which is very much needed.

Sifu is another title fans have been asking for for quite some time, so I wouldn’t be too surprised to see this pop up soon. Alongside Kena, these have been the two most requested games as of late. We’ve got Kena, so Sifu’s addition must be around the corner. Another strong contender is The Order: 1866. It’s a title that, surprisingly, has never popped up during a monthly PS Plus drop, but I’d imagine that it will eventually join the extra tier line-up.

In terms of PlayStation exclusives, the major title missing from PS Plus is Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart which, if you ask me, is one of the best PS5 exclusives out there. This could pop up in May but seeing as it’s a big one, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was dropped in June to celebrate the service’s one year anniversary since relaunching. Which titles are you hoping to see?
