PlayStation Plus first free game for May 2023 confirmed

PlayStation Plus first free game for May 2023 confirmed

The first extra and premium tier release for PlayStation Plus' May line-up has been announced and it's another day one exclusive.

This is a pleasant surprise. Ahead of schedule, the first free PlayStation Plus game for May has arrived. Well, it’s been announced, but you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer to get your grubby little mitts on it.

In case you’re behind on all the latest PlayStation Plus news, April’s essential tier line-up currently includes Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Tails of Iron, and day one release Meet Your Maker. There’s a ton of Sackboy free DLC on the PlayStation Store if you want to enhance your adventure. Extra and premium tier subscribers were treated to 16 new games, including Kena: Bridge of Spirits which many people have been requesting for quite some time. Let’s move on to May though. We now know our first free title of the month and it’s another day one release.

Speaking of PlayStation, Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores launched yesterday. Take a look at the release trailer below.

It’s been revealed that PlayStation Plus subscribers will gain access to day one release Humanity next month. Due to launch on 16 May, the title will be available to extra and premium tier subscribers and is described as an action-platforming and puzzle-strategizing game. Humanity also promises to be “undeniably Japanese” and yes, the trailer features an adorable Shiba Inu.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, Mark MacDonald - an executive producer at Enhance who created the game - explained that the title had been compared to Intelligent Cube, Echochrome, and Devil Dice. Essentially, the game sees you control a glowing Shiba Inu who must follow a horde of people. You’ll be tasked with making this horde turn, jump, float, swim, and climb your way to the finish line. All in all, it sounds a little bit odd, but I’m already on board to give it a go.

If you’re curious, the doggo doesn’t have a name because it’s supposed to be you, the player. There are a whopping 90 stages to complete so Humanity will certainly keep you busy. What’s more is that the title also has optional VR compatibility. Dive in next month.
