PlayStation Plus Free Games For June On Track To Be Best In Ages

Change is coming

2022 has been a weird year for PlayStation Plus subscribers. While a good number of the monthly free games have delighted and surprised users, there have been some real clangers too.

For every fun inclusion, like Ghost Of Tsushima Legends and GTA Online, there has also been pain. Subscribers won't soon forget the indignity of Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep - a nine-year-old DLC for Borderlands 2 - in February, and nor should they.

But with June comes the promise of real change. Sony's all-new PlayStation Plus will officially launch, bringing with it access to a much larger library of games from across every generation of PlayStation. That's assuming you're willing to pay more for the new Extra and Premium tiers, of course.

The Essential tier is for those who don't want to pay more than they're already paying for PS Plus, and will effectively offer the exact same service fans have been used to for the last several years. Access to online multiplayer, exclusive discounts, and, of course, free monthly games.

While we still don't know for sure which games will be made available to PS Plus Essential subscribers in June, hopes are high that Sony will deliver a winning month. This is, after all, the launch of a brand-new PS Plus! Sony needs to make a statement by delivering a blistering selection of quality, surprising games. More importantly, it needs to let Essential subscribers know that they're not being abandoned just because they're on the lowest tier.

In my humble opinion, PlayStation Plus is at its best when its monthly lineup combines unexpected indies with surprise AAA bangers and the occasional brand-new release. June's lineup needs to go in hard to remind subscribers just how good when the subscription service can be when it really hits. If they manage that, and nail the selection of incoming PlayStation and PlayStation 2 classics, then June is on track to be the best month PlayStation Plus has seen in a long, long time.
