GTA 6 release date update has us all feeling positive

The game is in a great place

Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed; that much I’m sure you’re aware of.

Originally, GTA VI was targeting a fall release this year, but Rockstar Games previously announced that the game will now launch on 26 May 2026.

Naturally, that left many of us feeling disappointed but that disappointment quickly vanished when the game’s second trailer landed out of nowhere.

A trailer, I should add, that was so impressive that most of us didn’t even realise it was partially made up of gameplay.

Of course, the delay did leave many of us wondering if GTA VI was struggling, away from the glossy trailers, to live up to expectation but such thoughts need not cross our minds.

You can view that second trailer below.

“As we get closer to completion of a title that’s seeking perfection, the needs or lack thereof, for continued polish become clear,” Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick previously told IGN.

“In this case, there was an opportunity with a small amount of incremental time, we thought, to make sure Rockstar Games achieves its creative vision with no limitations. And I supported, of course, that approach.”

It certainly sounds then as if the game is in a fantastic state already with the delay offering time to finesse and polish.

In fact, Zelnick has since told US news channel CNBC that the delay is “pretty short”, adding that it’s “less than six months”.

If you count back six months from the new release date, you land on 26 November, so it looks as if GTA VI was originally targeting a late November or early December release.

It’s with all of this in mind that many of us feel confident that the game won’t be subject to a further delay.

Of course, the question remains: When will Rockstar drop its next look at the game?

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s total radio silence until The Game Awards or early 2026.

That original trailer had to keep fans occupied for 18 months or so; that jam-packed second trailer can certainly do the same for the remaining seven months of this year.

While we have, without realising, already seen some gameplay, I don’t know about you but I’m itching to see what it looks like actually in-play with the full UI.

Hopefully, something along those lines will land next.
