Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade is free to play through an upcoming closed beta, which you can sign up for right now.

In case you missed the Ubisoft Forward Showcase yesterday, Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade was finally fully revealed. The open-world mobile game will be set in China during the third century BC. Taking place during Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Assassin’s Creed Origins, the player will explore the land of China, including famous landmarks like the Great Wall. The usual assassin tricks and parkour will be present, but with a Chinese twist, as there’ll be a variety of new weapons to master, like Chinese bows, spears and swords.

Take a look at the trailer for Codename Jade below.

The game also introduces a first for the series, a customisable character. Most Assassin’s Creed games have a pre-selected character, with recent entries granting the option to select gender but nothing more. Codename Jade will let players create their own assassin, and make their own identity in the world.

Fans were treated to a brief glimpse into the world during the showcase and treated to over 20 minutes of gameplay footage shortly after. It was also announced fans would be able to try Codename Jade for free, as part of an upcoming closed beta.

No date has been given for when the beta might drop, but speculation suggests it’ll kick off towards the end of this year, with the full game releasing sometime in early 2024. Players can register their interest in the closed beta, and be notified when a date has been set. If you miss out, Codename Jade is set to be free-to-play upon release.

Codename Jade is one of six Assassin’s Creed games currently in the works, which has led to Ubisoft expanding its development team by 40% to ensure quality across all projects. Upcoming releases will see the series appear on platforms outside the usual consoles, such as Codename Jade being the first mobile game and Assassin’s Creed: Nexus, which will be the first VR title in the series.

The next adventure into the world of assassins will be Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which releases later this year and aims to take the series back to its roots. It recently received new gameplay, which we’ve called a “blast of pure 2007 nostalgia”
