Steam has dropped a free download for one of 2025’s biggest sequels, and there’s no catch whatsoever.
2025 is already proving to be a stacked year of video game goodness, including the likes of Split Fiction, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and Hollow Knight: Silksong, to name a few. Not to mention that there are plenty of games yet to be released.
However, there’s another long-awaited game that’s sure to be a hit with gamers, especially for those who enjoy the Tony Hawks series, and that’s Skate., which was released this week in its latest phase of early access.
Skate. is a sequel to the original games from Electronic Arts that launched between 2007 and 2010. This series was seen as an alternative to the Tony Hawk entries for those who were looking for a more simulated experience in terms of gameplay.

Unlike the previous mainline entries in the series, developed by Full Circle, the brand new game is free-to-play as an early access title, and is available to download now via Steam.
“Experience improved Flick-It controls, the rich physics-based skateboarding gameplay that provides those 'only in Skate.' moments and off-board exploration for full freedom in the online multiplayer world of San Vansterdam,” reads the synopsis of the game.
Naturally, with Skate. being a free-to-play title, it does feature microtransaction enticements in the game, but if you can resist all temptation, you should be able to enjoy the game without having to spend a single penny.
It’s perhaps worth keeping in mind that at least on the Steam store, Skate. currently, has a mixed user review rating, with many being frustrated with a lack of features, its visual art style, bugs, as well as server stability issues.

“Skate. is still in early access, I know it'll keep changing and evolving,” explained Javuvu. “Gameplay-wise, it’s more Skate., which is exactly what I want. But the aesthetic is too clean, there’s no grit.”
“I figured people would review bomb when it came out. Listen, this game is great. It's one of the best feeling Skate games that we have out right now,” said Lynxxoo. “I understand people are upset about no story mode and missing features, but it's in early access.”
“Online-only slop with day one server issues, same challenges over and over for ripoff chips for a spin on the lootbox casino for frankly terrible cosmetics,” exclaimed FnX. “The art style is not what the devs promised in earlier playtest builds; the character creation and customisation are abysmal.”
“Out of touch vision of what young people would like, garbage song selection, Fortnite aesthetic instead of a grunge atmosphere,” said Jaxk. “No story mode. Even the physics are a downgrade from a 15-year-old game.”

Hopefully, the developers can fix players' concerns sooner rather than later, because Skate. certainly seems to have a lot of potential.
Skate. is also available on PlayStation and Xbox.
