A Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase is currently underway, and it's delivered us an exceptionally exciting announcement for Hollow Knight fans.
It's been a prosperous six months or so for fans of Team Cherry's acclaimed indie metroidvania.
Hollow Knight's long awaited sequel Hollow Knight: Silksong landed in September of 2025, picking up plenty of awards wins and nominations in the months following its launch.
The sequel somehow managed to live up to the brilliance of the original title, so it's nice to know that a DLC is in the works.

In case you missed it, Silksong: Sea of Sorrow is in development. No exact release date is yet available, but the expansion is expected to land this year.
It’s Time To Revisit Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight, Increased Framerates Arrive
Ahead of then, Hollow Knight: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is set to land. In fact, the Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase has confirmed that it’s shadowdropping today.
Hollow Knight: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is available right now, and the upgrade is totally free for existing owners of the base game.
Exact specs are thin on the ground, but the new-gen upgrade promises to introduce “higher resolution, improved frame rates, additional effects, and more”.

I’m keeping an eye on Team Cherry’s socials as we speak. I’m sure I’m not the only one itching to discover what “additional effects and more” refers to.
If you don’t own Hollow Knight already, you’ll be able to purchase Hollow Knight: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition as a full release; it isn’t simply available as an upgrade.
Pricing is yet to go live but the surprise drop shop surface on the Nintendo eShop imminently.
The Nintendo Direct Included Several Other Exciting Announcements, Particularly For Resi Fans
Elsewhere in the Nintendo Direct, a rather exciting announcement was made regarding Resident Evil Requiem which is arriving day one on Nintendo Switch 2 consoles.
In a move I personally didn't see coming, Nintendo has partnered with Capcom to create several amiibo for the game which will unlock special in-game weapon skins.
Unfortunately, the amiibo aren't arriving until the summer which is quite a long time after Requiem's release this month. Still, you'll be able to nab both Leon and Grace.
Nintendo is even launching a special Resident Evil Requiem pro controller.
All in all, it wasn't the most exciting Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase I've ever witnessed, but it delivered a couple of juicy goods.
