Square Enix has announced a release date for Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2.
It was announced last September that Square Enix would be bringing the entire Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy to other platforms outside of PlayStation 5 and PC, including the Nintendo Switch 2.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake came to Switch and Xbox last month, with lots of praise directed towards its performance and new accessibility options.
Following the launch of Remake on Switch 2 and Xbox, it wasn’t known when Square Enix would follow that up with the release of Rebirth on Nintendo and Xbox platforms aside from a rough 2026 date.

Still quite a ways away, but it’s nice that we’ll get to play it when the summer arrives. Plus, it gives us all a chance to do a full playthrough of Final Fantasy 7: Remake ahead of Rebirth’s launch.
Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth is the second game in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy, following Cloud Strife and his friends’ journey across The Planet to stop a megacorporation from exploiting its life essence, Mako, as an energy source.

Along the way, the party encounters Sephiroth, a former elite soldier who wants to unite with the Planet to achieve greater power.
A third game in the trilogy is also currently in the works, and it seems that it will be launching simultaneously across each platform, rather than retaining PlayStation exclusivity.
The third game will allegedly complete the Final Fantasy 7 story and close out the story, but it may also pave the way for further Final Fantasy 7 projects in the future.
