2025 is already shaping up to be an incredible year of gaming with multiple new releases finding themselves rated 90 and above via Metacritic.

This of course includes Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds but a unique co-op action-adventure release has found itself beating both of these RPGs when it comes to scores from critics and players alike.

Check out the official reveal trailer for Split Fiction below!

The game is, of course, Split Fiction, a co-op/split screen adventure from the creators of It Takes Two and A Way Out.

It seems as though Hazelight Studios has done it again when it comes to this niche genre and the game finds itself sitting at a 8.9 user score over on Metacritic and an ‘overwhelmingly positive’ rating on Steam.

Our very own Kate Harrold and Sam Cawley enjoyed their time with Split Fiction, awarding it a 10/10.

“Split Fiction has a wow factor that’s surprisingly hard to come by, despite how advanced consoles now are,” our review read.

“Hazelight didn’t just set out to make a great game; it’s a great game that dares to push the boundaries of what this generation can be.”

However, to make Split Fiction even more accessible, Hazelight has offered a way to play with a friend whilst also saving a whole lot of money.

That is thanks to the Friend’s Pass which will allow one player to purchase the game and then invite a second player at no extra cost.

“Invite a friend for free with the Friend's Pass and experience a mind-blowing co-op adventure together as you’re pulled deep into the many worlds of Split Fiction,” the official description reads.

This is an excellent way to entice a wider player base, as well as a way to cater for those who may not be able to afford a full-price game.

Hazelight has also used the Friend’s Pass in its previous titles so it is reassuring to see it continue this despite the gaming market getting a lot more expensive in recent years.

So if you want to get stuck into the highest rated game of the year, you know what to do.
