Starfield is officially available to download today

Good news everyone, Bethesda’s intergalactic adventure, Starfield, has gone gold, and can be pre-installed right now.

Good news everyone, Bethesda’s intergalactic adventure, Starfield, has gone gold, and can be pre-installed right now.

This is not a drill, if you’ve preordered Starfield Xbox, or have an active subscription to Xbox Game Pass, the game can be pre-installed onto your system right now. PC players will also be able to pre-install the game, but at a slightly later date, which we’ll get to in a minute.

Take a look at the trailer for Starfield below

We’d strongly advise you to pre-install the game before its official release too, as it’s going to take a while given its enormous file size. In fairness, it’s surprising given the scope of the game, which promises to be absolutely massive.

Fans have already plotted out the galaxy, which features over 1,000 planets with each having maps “thousands of times larger” than The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

While exploring every planet isn’t necessary to progress through the main story, which will be roughly 40 hours long, you better believe players are planning to spend thousands of hours exploring every nook and cranny.

After months of waiting, the launch is almost here. As previously stated, Xbox players can install it right now, whereas PC players will be able to install the game via Steam on the 30th of August, still in time for the game’s release.

It hasn’t been entirely smooth sailing though, as the game has been the subject of several volatile discussions online.

In one corner, there are the Xbox fans who are sceptical about the state of the game at launch, given Bethesda’s history with bugs and glitches, though Xbox has promised fewer bugs than any previous release. In the other corner, there are fans who are adamant the game will be a success, citing early review copies going out as a sign Bethesda are confident in its condition.

Then there are PlayStation fans, who have repeatedly opposed the newest Xbox exclusive, even going so far as to launch petitions to cancel it and bring it to the PlayStation 5 platform. Of course, that failed miserably.

That being said, the majority are just excited the game is almost here, and can’t wait to create their own starships and write their own character stories.

Starfield launches on the 6th of September for the standard version and the 1st of September for those who bought the Constellation Edition.
