PlayStation has announced a new piece of hardware coming this year, and fans of a certainly lovable robot series are going to be hyped.

This week, Sony aired its latest State of Play event and while it wasn't the most hyped show, on a personal level, I was over the moon that it was announced that we are finally getting the original Resident Evil trilogy on modern PlayStation consoles, as well as being treated to Silent Hill f gameplay.

Another highlight for many, one of the best games of 2024, Astro Bot, is getting five new challenge levels for free. That game really is the gift that keeps on giving, thanks to its developers, Team Asobi.

In our review of Astro Bot, we said: “If you’ve grown up with PlayStation always having been a constant in your life, the journey you’re about to embark on will assuredly be the most heartwarming trip down memory lane. Astro Bot is a monumental triumph that I’m not going to stop thinking about for a very, very long time.”

Alongside the launch of Astro Bot last year was a gorgeous DualSense controller. Sony is releasing a lot of limited edition controllers nowadays, most recent ones inspired by The Last of Us Part II and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach.

However, for me, the ‘Astro Bot Limited Edition DualSense’ controller is the best of the lot, hands down, and if you’d like to pick up an “updated” version of this controller, then you’re in luck.

As brought to our attention by PlayStationLifestyle, it’s been announced on the PlayStation Blog that the Astro Bot DualSense controller is getting an updated version release later this year.

In the blog post, it stated that it will have a “new joyful twist to the touch pad,” and additional information will be shared soon.

An image shown of the controller on the blog post has squinted eyes on the touch pad, instead of being wide open.

This could very well be the “joyful twist,” but I’m hoping it will have a lenticular-like effect that gives the impression that the Astro Bot eyes move.

We’ll of course keep you posted when new information drops. Astro Bot is out now on PlayStation 5.
