PlayStation 5 system update introduces new setting you'll want to turn on immediately

This is what we love to see

PlayStation's latest update has officially rolled it, and users are already making good use of its big new feature.

In case you missed it, PlayStation rolled out a pretty big system update earlier this month for select users to test out. With it came the arrival of a slew of new features, including changes to the share screen and some long-requested tweaks to the console itself. But Sony didn't stop there.

As announced last week, PlayStation has introduced a shiny new passkey feature that's designed to make our lives much easier.

Rather than remember passwords like some kind of stupid schmuck, PlayStation's passkeys update allows you to utilise thumb and/or face ID to get you into your account. Because you might forget your password, but it is rare that you will forget your face. Although I'm told that can happen.

Anyway, the new feature seems to be a big hit so far, with PlayStation gamers urging one another to turn the setting on and make use of passkeys.

"Apps that let me login via Face ID, and TV apps that let me login with a QR code are my favourite apps," wrote one user on the PS5 subreddit.

If you do want to switch from passwords to this new system, PlayStation has created a dedicated webpage for the process You can read all the details over here, but what you should know is that your previous password will become void if you choose to use passkeys instead, so proceed with caution.

In other PlayStation news, the first PlayStation Plus free game for March 2024 has landed, and it's a bit of a banger. We'll know what the rest of the free games for March are later this week, but for now you can get a lil' sneak preview if you fancy it. I won't tell.
