Star Wars fans have uncovered George Lucas’ original plans for the Sequel Trilogy, and they’re divided as to whether or not Lucas’ plans are better or, somehow, even worse.
Love ‘em or hate ‘em, it’s fair to say that Disney’s Star Wars trilogy is a little half-baked.
That’s not a criticism as much as it as a fact, because it’s well documented at this point that Disney chose to massively pivot with their plans for the ninth Star Wars film at the final hour and ended up delivering something far different than what they’d originally planned.

Well, it turns out that George Lucas did have some plans of his own… and the fans over on the r/StarWars subreddit seem firmly divided as to whether or not they’re superior.
“I know he had some ideas with Darth Maul and even Darth Talon, and apparently George’s vision for his Sequel Trilogy would’ve been centered around Leia as well…” commented user chromekookie.
“I will say though as while it would’ve been cool to see Darth Maul back or even Talon for that matter being that she’s now apart of the EU, I can’t help but to think it’s for the best to leave those ideas buried. Maul’s story ended perfectly in Rebels.”
“He had several ideas, the worst of them would still be better than what we got”, replied user DramaExpertHS.

You can go a step beyond what the commenters outline however, as journalist Andrew G. over on Medium has actually collated every piece of info we know regarding Lucas’ original drafts.
“The story George was working on changed quite a bit during the year or so he was in control, but one thing remained constant. It was always about a young woman and her quest to become a Jedi Knight”, Andrew revealed.
“Also, in the treatment George handed over in 2012, Luke Skywalker died in Episode VIII… Midi-chlorians and the Whills would have also factored into the story in some way.”
Does that sound better or worse? Who knows! And we never will know, so probably best to stop worrying about it, personally.
