Star Wars: The Acolyte star's return met with predictably toxic response

Just for once, give it a rest

I will never, for the life of me, understand why ‘fans’ of a pop culture franchise continue to hate watch and spew toxic diatribes towards actors and creators who are simply trying to provide entertainment.

Sure, maybe you didn’t like Star Wars: The Acolyte, maybe you didn’t like the fact that it had a female protagonist, and a diverse cast of actors, but why not just… turn it off?

Star of the show, Amandla Stenberg, wrote a lovely introduction to the book, The Acolyte: Visual Guide, and in her writing said, “We all brought our love of Star Wars.”

She also said, “we were fortunate to benefit from decades of experience and passion brought to the fore by people across the entire production.”

Once this was quoted over on Twitter, the fan base did what it always does, and starts aiming hateful and hurtful comments at Stenberg, the creators, and genuine fans of the show.

I’ve never understood the hate the show received, if you don’t like it, then just watch something else and move on.

When I picked up this story this morning, I was tempted to quote some of the hateful comments, but y’know what, I’m not going to give them the oxygen.

If you want to see what people are saying, then head over and read them for yourself. Just know, there are some awful things being said over… a TV show that can easily be turned off.

Instead, let’s scroll through the forest of spite and find some genuinely nice things, while not feeding the trolls.

“They did a fantastic job in bringing two of Disney’s best Star Wars characters to screen,” said one fan.

Another said, “The Acolyte was a lot better than fans gave it credit for.”

“I don’t understand the hate TBH,” commented another.
