From a galaxy far, far away

Nowadays, it feels like fans of Star Wars: The Acolyte are few and far between despite how good the show actually was, and how it attempted to do something different with the franchise.

Cut short before it could really get going, this Star Wars project could have been so much more than it was allowed to be, by skewering the formula and exploring deep lore that many fans had requested for years.

It was not meant to be, and Disney cancelled the show leaving plot threads dangling in the wind, while fans of the show were left wondering what the character’s fates are.

Thankfully, Disney is still happy to expand the show in other ways, and a new visual guide, a book produced by DK Books, will fill in a few gaps, while showing off the gorgeous costumes and set design.

As with any companion book, there are details here that elevate the characters and plot, by bringing in information that couldn’t be translated via the show.

For example, there are facts here about the time of the High Republic that reference a period where the Sith ruled the galaxy before being toppled by two Jedi to bring about peace.

We also get to learn more about The Stranger, otherwise known as Qimir, and his past, before he turned to the Dark Side.

And, of course, Darth Plagueis gets a mention, and is confirmed to be the shadowy figure peeking out of the cave, but there’s still some mystery as it’s not written that Qimir is the apprentice of the iconic Sith.

These are all points that could have been further explored had the show not been cut short, and regardless of audience reception or vocal minorities, displays that TV shows should be given time to breathe and develop in order to entertain and satisfy.
