Despite The Acolyte getting cancelled after just one season, plenty of fans yearn for its return, especially with so many questions unanswered. And that yearning for more is only being strengthened with a brand new Acolyte themed release.
First airing back in June 2024 as part of the ever-growing Star Wars universe, The Acolyte took place during the end of the High Republic era and before the events of The Skywalker Saga, making it the first project chronically in the beloved sci-fi series.
The story followed a former Padawan who reunited with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes but they soon discover that the forces they encounter are a lot more sinister than they first thought. Featuring one of the best villain reveals in Star Wars history, The Acolyte consisted of eight episodes but was unfortunately cancelled not long after its Disney+ launch.
Despite being met with favourable reviews, the show was met with multiple review bombs which no doubt contributed to the show’s cancellation despite its show writer, Leslye Headland having big plans for its continuation.

That is why multiple moments during The Acolyte now remain cliffhangers such as the sneak peek of Darth Plagueis and Vernestra Rwoh’s discussion with none other than Yoda himself.
Now thanks to the upcoming release of The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte by Kristin Baver, we now have even more insight into that moment with Headland revealing that much of the scene was unfortunately cut.

The Show Could Have Ended a Lot Differently
Following the death of Sol, we see Vernestra pin the deaths of the Brendok Jedi on him by lying to the Senate tribunal and assuring them that the threat had been dealt with despite knowing that both The Stranger and Osha survived.
However, in order to tie in with themes from the prequel, Headland had originally planned to shoot a scene where Vernestra is confronted in the Galactic Senate Building.
“There was a moment where I think you understood Vernestra’s choice to betray Sol,” Headland explains in the new book.
“As she was leaving, she walked out and looked up as Senator Rayencourt said, ‘Welcome to the world of politics'.
“But as we were cutting things together, it did seem a little odd to end Vernestra’s story, but then come back to her talking to Yoda.”
What we see instead of Vernestra seeking counsel with Yoda.
However, what she says is unknown to the audience as the scene soon fades to black.
“It didn’t work in the edit, but it’s just one of those things that I really miss, you know?” Headland continued.
“I’m so sad we had to cut this. It was a good one.”
This moment joins many others that will never have a conclusion but will hopefully still get explored in the future of the Star Wars universe.
Until then, you can learn more about The Acolyte with the launch of The Art of Star Wars: The Acolyte by Kristin Baver which will be released on 5 February 2026.
