Embark Studios has confirmed that one of the most divisive features in its live-service support will be put on hold until 2027 as part of a reworked update model.
From the beginning, Arc Raiders players have had one major gripe with the game: Expeditions.
Supposedly serving as a rewarding prestige-like progression system, the four Expeditions so far have not been overly special, giving a very underwhelming feeling every time the caravan departs.
Wiping all your gained loot in favour of swanky new gear, the ends don't justify the means, and it's put a ceiling on how much Arc Raiders can be enjoyed.

Yet after the community registered a vocal disagreement about Expeditions, Embark has had one ear to the ground and confirmed a change is on the way.
Arc Raiders confirms Expedition halt until 2027
In a new blog post, Embark Studios confirmed that the upcoming fifth Expedition will be the last one for around six months, as they overhaul the feature.
The next window, starting on September 8, will reward players with an exclusive Zenith Outfit, a new blueprint, an increase of 12 stash space (maxed out at 60), 150 Raider tokens, and more 'mystery rewards.'
After the next caravan departure, Expeditions will be put on a temporary hold, in a bid to review the incentives for making such a drastic reset.
"We have been carefully reviewing your feedback on Expeditions," Embark said.
"While we've made ongoing improvements along the way, we've come to realize that some of the issues you've raised, like the tight departure windows, the reward structure, and accessibility for new players, need more than incremental fixes. They call for bigger changes.
"In order to address those concerns, we need to pause the Expeditions for a while. The fifth Expedition will be the last one until early 2027, when Expeditions will return with major improvements, tackling some of the biggest player pain points. So, if you’ve been on the fence about departing - now is the time! We will share more details on what those changes will look like in September."

The blog post has been welcome reading for Arc Raiders players, who will hope to be rewarded with greater customisation features in the future.
This also follows recent comments from Embark that content drops are also slowing down, collating smaller updates into bigger live-service season-like releases.
This will give newer players a chance to get to grips with the game before things change, while still rewarding loyal fans with grindable missions and cooler rewards.
The new live-service structure will make for more "meaningful decisions, dynamic encounters, and moments that demand cooperation and careful judgment," according to the developers.
