PlayStation 5 surprise system update hailed as ‘desperately needed’ by fans

Sometimes, we get the win we deserve

Here at GAMINGbible, we don’t have favourites. But if we did, our PlayStations would come close to the top of that list.

And that was before this unexpected update.

With surprise PlayStation Plus games available that fans have been begging for, alongside 400 hours' worth of adventuring to be had, now is the time for such a feature to be introduced.

In the latest update, PlayStation 5 owners will be able to join Discord voice chat without faffing about.

Previously, you had to have the Discord app or use Discord PC, but with this new feature you can directly voice chat with your friends directly through your console. No extras are necessary.

“Oh thank God finally! I can't stand the Discord mobile app,” said Klausensen on Reddit.

As per PlayStation's instructions, here’s how you’ll be able to start using this option straight away: “Select the Discord tab in Game Base within the PS5 Control Center and choose the Discord server or DM group you’d like to join.”

From there, “Select your preferred voice channel. This will reveal more details, such as who is already in the channel chatting. You’ll also receive a PS5 console notification when another Discord user calls you, allowing you to join right away.”

If, like me, you don’t tend to game with friends (oh, woe is me), this might not feel as “desperately needed”.

But for social gamers, this is everything and more. “FINALLY, OH MY F**KING GOD, THANK YOU,” posted ShadowMasterKing.

Further down the comments, another Redditor said, “This is great and desperately needed, especially since so many games are cross-play now.”

Now, if only Sony could introduce screen sharing between the two platforms, then fans would be bouncing off the walls with glee.

Maybe that’s the plan for the next surprise...? We can but hope.
