Horizon Zero Dawn sequel details appear online, Horizon 3 to end Aloy's story

Horizon 3 is on the way and it could be the end of Aloy's story

Sony PlayStation 5 has had some fantastic exclusive titles since its launch in November 2020 and one game that can be considered amongst the best is Horizon Forbidden West.

Developed by Guerrilla Games, Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn. The premise of the Horizon series follows the protagonist Aloy, with the help of her friends (and a very suspicious Sylens played by the late Lance Reddick), who aims to save planet Earth in the year 3021 after the world has been ravaged by machines.

Check out the Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores trailer below!

The most recent story in the Horizon saga is its critically acclaimed expansion, Burning Shores which helps to set up the events of upcoming Horizon 3. In our review of Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores, we said: “If Horizon 3 is anything like Burning Shores, we’re in for a real treat - and yet we know that Guerrilla continue to step up their game with each new release. If Burning Shores has taken the franchise to soaring new heights, I cannot wait for the next instalment in Aloy’s journey to take us to the stars and beyond.”

Sony hasn't officially revealed Horizon 3 to the world, but we all know that it’s an inevitability. However, developers Guerrilla Games have teased that Horizon 3 is in the works with the studio “expanding the world of Horizon with Aloy’s next adventure,” as detailed in a job advertisement at the Amsterdam, Netherlands-based studio.

Sure, there’s not much to go on at this time, but at least we know that Horizon 3 is in the works and it could even be the end of Aloy’s story. After which, where will the series go? We do know that an MMO set in the Horizon universe is on the way, but it has no ties to the mainline story as far as we know.

I’d be surprised if Sony killed this series, though they have seemingly killed Killzone, a property handled by Guerrilla Games before the arrival of Horizon. Could we see the Horizon series continue from the perspective of other characters? Only time will tell.

It’s also likely that Horizon 3 could be released on PlayStation 6. As for the immediate future, both Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West are available on modern PlayStation consoles.
