A new Horizon adventure is on the way. Unfortunately, it’s not the highly anticipated Horizon 3. Horizon Forbidden West: Seeds of Rebellion has been announced - a brand new tabletop board game set prior to Aloy’s arrival in the titular Forbidden West.
For those who are awaiting the next video game instalment, worry not. Insiders claim that there are a whopping 16 Horizon projects in the works at Guerrilla Games. We know that one of those projects is the as yet untitled Horizon 3, plus a multiplayer release. If rumours are to be believed, Horizon Forbidden West could be coming to PC while some insiders claim that Zero Dawn is getting a remake but I’m dubious about the latter. It’s no wonder that Guerrilla are going all-in on Horizon. It’s an incredible franchise with fans hailing it as an ‘absolute masterpiece’ of storytelling. That storytelling is about to continue away from our consoles in the new tabletop adventure Horizon Forbidden West: Seeds of Rebellion.
Remind yourself of just how stunning the Forbidden West is below.
Horizon Forbidden West: Seeds of Rebellion is heading to Kickstarter on 21 November, creator Steamforged has announced. Created in partnership with Guerrilla's narrative team, Seeds of Rebellion is a new board game designed for one to four players. If you’ve played the original Horizon Zero Dawn board game, this new release builds on many of its features.
Set before Aloy arrives in the Forbidden West, the synopsis reads, “Much of this frontier is the territory of the warlike Tenakth. Though the tribe is currently united under the great Chief Hekarro, a rebellion is fomenting in the dark corners of this mysterious place. This potential insurrection threatens the hard-won, fragile peace between the Tenakth’s three clans.”
As a Marshal, you’re tasked with investigating and fighting this threat, determining the fate of the Clan Lands. There will be ‘life-or-death quests’, machines, powerful weapons … all you’ve come to expect from the Horizon universe. And yes, the story is canonical. Steamforged will begin rolling out gameplay videos in October before the Kickstarter is opened on 21 November. I personally cannot wait to see more.
