God of War fans are hoping that the franchise's return will be revealed next month on 2 June, so it might be worth marking your calendars, just in case.
Sony has confirmed recent rumours that it will be hosting its next digital State of Play showcase event next month, and so far, Marvel’s Wolverine has been announced as its headline attraction.
However, there are a couple of other headliners that gamers will be hoping to see at next month's State of Play. Namely, the heavily rumoured Hogwarts Legacy 2 and a new God of War.
That being said, while we can only expect one Harry Potter-inspired reveal (if we’re lucky) at State of Play, potentially, God of War has two outcomes. But we do know that at least one Kratos outing most likely won't be at the event, and that’s remakes of the original God of War trilogy.

During the announcement of the God of War trilogy remakes, it was made clear that any further news would be some way off, with the release expected to be years down the line. So that just leaves one other potential outcome, the rumoured new game starring Kratos’ second wife, Faye, mother of Atreus.
“I just hope we get some more news on the God of War remakes, or any GoW news at this point,” said Redditor MattStanni99, referring to State of Play on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.
“I doubt we will hear anything about those remakes before 2027/2028. They were announced three months ago, and they made it very clear the games are still in very early development,” replied Junttiana.
“Honestly, I wouldn’t doubt if they tried to make them PS6 exclusive console launch titles to entice people into buying the machine,” added ImThatAlexGuy.
Before the next State of Play was made official, fans also spoke on the potential of the aforementioned God of War game, rumoured to have Faye as its playable lead.
“Guys, we need to discuss this new God of War rumour that is going on lately,” posted Own_Bobcat7055.
“Christopher Judge said in a video where he said, 'and then you will be hearing what we are doing probably late summer, which is mid-August to late September,” they continued.
“When I go online and search about GoW news, I see that people are saying that the rumoured Faye game is going to be revealed at a late May or early June State of Play this year,” they continued.
“Kratos will likely be in the rumoured Faye game in some capacity. Cory [Barlog] said in one of the post-GOW 2018 interviews that he wanted to tell the story of Kratos and Faye meeting at some point, and this game would be the obvious project to tell that story in,” explained Downtown_Eye5736.
“I don't really like the idea of going back to play as Faye. I would rather a new game focusing on a new mythology featuring a grown-up Atreus and include Kratos as well,” suggested DapperGoal7948, which could be a solid idea for a God of War Ragnarök sequel.
All we can do right now is speculate about what the future holds for the God of War series. Only time will tell if we’ll learn more at the State of Play event next month. If any news drops, we’ll be sure to let you know right away.
