God of War: Laufey has been delayed in a surprise announcement made today by Santa Monica Studio.
Sony's Santa Monica Studio announced earlier today that it will be delaying the upcoming God of War: Laufey to May 20, 2027.
The original release date for the game was February 16, 2027 when it was announced last year, but this delay will see the game come three months later.
"Since the reveal of God of War Laufey in June, we've been deeply grateful to see so much excitement for Faye's journey through the Everywhen. We don't take for granted the trust placed in our studio to make an extraordinary experience worthy of the passion and dedication of our fans," reads a post by Santa Monica Studio.

God of War Laufey was announced in June 2026
God of War: Laufey was originally announced by Sony in June this year, with an announced release date of February 16, 2027.
The game stars Deborah Ann Woll as the titular character Faye, who awakens in a mythological afterlife called the Everywhen following her death prior to God of War (2018). The Everywhen features various gods and deities from across many different theologies, where Faye must find a way home while keeping her husband, Kratos, and son, Atreus, safe from dangerous forces within the Everywhen.
The upcoming game will also feature Jack Quaid as Phranque, a cosmic cube who doesn't remember his past, and Rue, an enchanted ribbon who must prevent a devastatingly powerful sword from falling into the wrong hands, which later becomes Faye's primary weapon.
Developed by Santa Monica Studio, the game acts as both a sequel to God of War and God of War: Ragnarok, while also taking place alongside the events of those games. As the Everywhen is a different dimension where time moves differently, the events of the game are expected to take place both during and after those two games. Although it doesn't star Kratos as the protagonist, he is set to appear in the game.
