An eagle-eyed gamer has spotted what looks to be a tease that the mighty Thor could return in the newly announced God of War Laufey.
The God of War series is developed by Santa Monica Studios and remains one of PlayStation’s most important properties since it graced us with its presence on the PS2 in 2005.
The last mainline game in the series is God of War Ragnarök, which looked to conclude Kratos and Atreus’ Norse saga. That was until the arrival of the fantastic free DLC in 2024, Valhalla. Now, fans are eagerly awaiting the possibility of a new adventure for everyone’s favourite angry god.

Before we get any kind of announcement for a follow-up to God of War Ragnarök, we know that the original trilogy is getting remade from the ground up and will see the return of the OG Kratos, Terrence C. Carson, as the son of Zeus. However, those remakes are in very early development, so we’re going to have to be patient for their arrival.

Thankfully, there is yet another God of War entry on the way, and that’s God of War Laufey. Here you’ll have you play as the deceased Faye in the afterlife, the wife of Kratos and the mother of Atreus, who we were very briefly introduced to during the opening moments of God of War (2018).
Just a heads up, there are spoilers ahead for God of War Ragnarök, so you have been warned.
In God of War Ragnarök, Kratos, the God of War, and Thor, the God of Thunder, get into an epic battle. To cut a long story short, Kratos wins that battle by the skin of his teeth, and thus, Thor is presumably sent packing to the afterlife, known in God of War Laufey as the Everywhen.
In the marketing material for God of War Laufey, with Faye looking all badass, posing on a hilltop alongside Phranque and Rue, as brought to our attention by the Twitter user Luce, you can just about see a very pinpointed bolt of lightning in the far background.
IS THAT THOR????? pic.twitter.com/BdHx1c5qnb

If this were a typical bolt of lightning as a result of stormy weather, I’d think nothing of it. However, other than a dark cloud, it doesn't look very stormy, and it looks like this bolt of lightning is striking at a singular point.
Could this be Thor wielding his Mjölnir? We can only speculate at this time. I guess only time will tell, and hopefully, all will be revealed when God of War Laufey is released, whenever that time might be.
Some in the Twitter thread have even speculated that the bolt of lightning might have something to do with Kratos’ father, Zeus. With Everywhen essentially being a hub of gods from all pantheons. I suppose it’s not outside the realm of possibility, or it could mean absolutely nothing.
Just like the God of War trilogy remakes, God of War Laufey doesn’t have a release date at this time. All we know for sure right now is that it's coming to PlayStation 5. But when those release dates drop, we’ll be sure to let you know.
