God of War fans are hyped following the announcement of the original trilogy being remade, but its potential release window has them split.
Quite possibly the biggest announcement made at last night’s State of Play was the announcement of two new God of War projects. Firstly, confirming months of rumours, God of War: Sons of Sparta was officially confirmed.
God of War: Sons of Sparta is a prequel story to the mainline series that began in 2005 on the PlayStation 2. In fact, it’s a very early prequel story. It features Kratos, a young, budding Spartan warrior, long before he became a father and vengeful demigod.
God of War: Sons of Sparta Is out Now
God of War: Sons of Sparta is a side-scrolling action game with visuals inspired by a bygone sprite era. To be fair, for something very different from this beloved series, it looks like the game might be a lot of fun. It was also shadow-dropped, so it's available right now via the PlayStation Store.
Then we had the announcement that the original God of War trilogy is being remade, games that were released on PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3. Many might consider these to be the best games in the series, before the 2018 reboot.

At this point, the original trilogy has been remastered, but this is the first time that we’re getting God of War remakes, and understandably, fans are hyped. Oh, I nearly forgot to mention that the OG Kratos actor, TC Carson, also returns.
However, in the announcement trailer, TC Carson clearly stated that while development has begun, we’re going to need to be patient for the remakes to be released.
TC Carson also teased that we should be very excited about its next reveal. What’s more, given that it’s in the very early stages of development, no release window was mentioned.
Fans Speculate When the God of War Remakes Will Be Released
“Late 2027, early 2028? Thoughts?” asked Redditor IsaiahPheifer123. “It's been three years since God of War Ragnarök, and the remakes are in early development.”
“I can accept this remake only if it's like the Demon’s Souls remake. If I have to wait years for an HD texture, I'll be so disappointed,” said brelyxp.
“I think BluePoint is going to help with this,” suggested GymratAmarillo. BluePoint Games is the developer of the aforementioned Demon’s Souls remake.
“Not gonna lie, it could be 2028-2029. They might release it for the PS6, too. I’m not sure tho,” suggested Formal-Beat525.
“2028 at best for the first release. Don't think they would all be released at the same time unless they are glorified remasters,” claimed muneeb93500. If you want Resident Evil type remakes, then this is gonna take a very long time.”
Plenty of other Reddit users believe that the God of War remakes might not even arrive until 2029 or 2030. If I’m to be overly optimistic, depending on how long they’ve been in development before the State of Play announcement, I’m hoping for a 2028 release.
Of course, as soon as we learn more about the original God of War trilogy remakes, we’ll be sure to let you know straight away.
