Details on the next game from God of War developer Santa Monica Studio have been released, teasing an ‘MCU’-like approach to the franchise moving forward.
Santa Monica Studio closed off the Norse Saga of its God of War games with God of War: Ragnarok in 2022.
Following the announcement of the God of War Trilogy Remake, as well as the release of God of War: Sons of Sparta, it seems that Santa Monica Studio is going all-in on more games in the franchise.
This also appears to extend to whatever new game the developer is cooking up next, with the next game teased to have an ‘MCU’ style of storytelling with parallel characters, stories and events.

As reported by Jason Schreier for Bloomberg earlier this week following the closure of Bluepoint Games, “At the time, Sony was all-in on ‘live-service’ games — games designed for continual monetization after launch.
“One of those games would be Bluepoint’s first original title under PlayStation: a live-service game in the God of War franchise, which the organization hoped could support several sequels and spinoffs, like its own smaller version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”
Santa Monica Studio Writer's LinkedIn Page Suggests New God Of War Spin-Offs In Development
Following this, ResetEra user nolifebr shared a screenshot from the LinkedIn page of former Santa Monica Studio writer Lauren Signorino, which hints at the developer taking this approach for its next game.

According to the screenshot, Signorino “helped shape narrative vision and creative direction at Sony Santa Monica Studio for a new franchise within the God of War universe, developing characters, storylines, and original lore that expanded the acclaimed IP.”
From the sounds of it, it appears that this unannounced title may be a new spin-off set in the God of War universe but featuring brand new characters and stories.
This is an approach Remedy Entertainment has made with its Alan Wake and Control games, featuring two variably different styles of games all set within a shared continuity.
Although both of those games share a universe and characters, the gameplay and style are much different from each other which allows them to feel unique. One takes a more survival horror approach, while the other is more action horror.
However, since nothing has been announced by Santa Monica Studio or Sony Interactive Entertainment, be sure to take all of this with a pinch of salt for the time being.
