Hogwarts Legacy quickly became the most successful Harry Potter game to date, which means all eyes are on the sequel to surpass it.
The existence of Hogwarts Legacy 2 has already been confirmed by Avalanche Software developers and Warner Bros representatives but we’re yet to actually see the game.
Rumours say that’s about to change though, especially with the announcement of a new PlayStation State of Play showcase scheduled for next month.
Like usual, the PlayStation State of Play showcase will give gamers a glimpse at new and exciting games coming to PlayStation 5 later this year and beyond.
The only confirmed title so far is Marvel’s The Wolverine, which we’ve already seen plenty of but a little more couldn’t hurt, right?

It’s the unannounced reveals that are really getting us excited though and earlier this week, leaker Tidux teased fans with an X post reading: “SOP- HL2 Soon™”
Many quickly put two and two together and theorised the post was alluding to Hogwarts Legacy 2, and now that we know a State of Play is on the way, the timing couldn’t be more suspicious.
PlayStation’s next showcase is scheduled for 2 June and goes live at 2pm PT. That’s 10pm for those living in the United Kingdom like we are.
It’ll run for around an hour, which gives plenty of opportunity to tease the next wizarding world game.
We’re confident that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be part of the showcase but if it isn’t, there’s always Summer Game Fest later that month, and then Gamescom’s Opening Night Live show in August.
It feels highly unlikely that there won’t at least be a teaser trailer for Hogwarts Legacy 2 before the end of 2026.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 will hopefully expand the world of Harry Potter like no game has before. A larger open-world with more iconic locations to explore would be great but what we’re really hoping for are more consequences for those wanting to be dark wizards.
The Hogwarts Legacy sequel has an interesting decision to make though. The ending of the first game saw players choose with the magical artefact they found partway through the story.
You either keep it for yourself, which is implied to be the bad ending, or you release it into the world, which is the good ending.
Unless Hogwarts Legacy 2 takes a page out of Red Dead Redemption 2’s book and makes the game a prequel, one of these endings will probably need to be made canon. The good ending would make the most sense, but we’d love to see something similar to the Prototype games, where the first game’s protagonist becomes the antagonist of the sequel.
