It’s that time again. With more Hogwarts Legacy 2 rumours making the social media rounds, could the wait finally be over?
When Hogwarts Legacy was first released in February 2023, it instantly became the game that Harry Potter fans had been waiting years for. Sure, we’ve had some fantastic games inspired by the Wizarding World before, such as The Philosopher's Stone, especially on PS1 and the LEGO Harry Potter games, but nothing quite like Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy had a story that kept fans hooked from start to finish, fun magical combat, Hogwarts Castle was a joy to explore, charming NPCs, enjoyable side activities and much more. It’s no wonder that Hogwarts Legacy outsold the lifetime sales of Elden Ring in just five weeks and became the best-selling game of 2023.
That’s a good question, because given the success of the 2023 game, it feels strange that a sequel is yet to be confirmed by Avalanche Software and publisher Warner Bros. Games. However, the agonising wait for an update could finally be over.
“Hogwarts Legacy 2 to be in the next State of Play,” claimed Redditor Connect_Base_217, sharing a tweet from social media content creator, Tidux.
That being said, we should always take unconfirmed rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise, especially when so many users are very sceptical of Tidux, and that’s putting it mildly.

That’s not to say that we’re not going to get Hogwarts Legacy 2 at some point, because despite the continued radio silence, it makes no sense for Warner Bros. Games to leave the game for dust, given the success of the original outing. Releasing a sequel is basically printing money.
“We all know a sequel is in development and that the HBO show's right around the corner, but I feel like it's a bit too early for a sequel to be announced. The original was just completed three years ago. I think this is a 2028 game at the earliest,” replied HearTheEkk0
The above Reddit user makes very valid points. Other than a sequel being as inevitable as Thanos, Warner Bros. has already teased that, should Hogwarts Legacy 2 happen, it may have a modern setting, inspired by the HBO series coming later this year.
Furthermore, there have been more than one job vacancy advertisements at Avalanche Software for roles that suspiciously sound like Hogwarts Legacy 2 - plus the game has appeared on several dev LinkedIn profiles. Still, as I said before, all rumours should be taken with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise.
As for now, we can enjoy the original Hogwarts Legacy on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch. The Harry Potter HBO series is scheduled to arrive in December this year.
