Hogwarts Legacy was a pretty impressive rendition of the Harry Potter universe, even if it was set more than a century before the events of the original novels and film adaptations.
That said, there are very few who could have predicted quite what a grip it had on its audience, with new evidence suggesting that it's one of the most significantly popular games of the current generation.
Over on the official PlayStation website, Sony shared a ton of details and stats to mark what they are calling "Five Years of Play," which essentially amounts to a celebration of five years of the PS5.
Within that, the company confirmed that there are a staggering 7500 PS5 games published from more than 400 creators the world over. Amongst those, three single-player games stand above the rest in terms of total playtime - Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, God of War Ragnarök and Hogwarts Legacy.
Hogwarts Legacy's Popularity Must Be Used Sensibly

The appearance of Hogwarts Legacy on that list may come as a surprise to many, with so many classic and lengthy titles currently calling the PlayStation 5 home. That said, it should come as pretty delightful news to Sony, who can use it's clear popularity on the console as part of the release for the next game.
If you have a reasonably sharp memory, you might remember the launch of the original and the cool stuff PlayStation players were exclusively entitled to. It went a bit further than the usual "here's a few cosmetics for your character" though, with the developers offering an entirely exclusive quest to those playing the game on the console.
It was also a pretty cool one, as Haunted Hogsmeade Shop allowed your young witch or wizard to own their very own shop in the titular village. Potential issues with child labour laws aside, it's a really cool little addition and Sony would be mad to not offer something similar for the sequel.
With the lack of emphasis on console exclusivity in 2025, setting the hardware apart in other ways is the best way to make sure consumers go with you as their platform of choice. Though there is talk of Hogwarts Legacy 2 being a very different proposition to the first game, there's no reason that it shouldn't be an absolute priority for Sony.

Whether they will take our sanguine advice remains to be seen, but it would certainly get a lot of players logging in for a spell if they did (sorry).
