Hogwarts Legacy Drops Milestone Update, Bodes Well For Sequel

It's in the bag

Hogwarts Legacy quickly became the best-selling Harry Potter game ever made, though to be fair there hasn’t been that many of them.

However what Hogwarts Legacy did right in my opinion is focus on our very own Hogwarts student rather than the boy who lived, as exploring the ancient school of witchcraft and wizardry through our own eyes was arguably more magical.

Of course the game’s relation to J.K Rowling hurt its reputation in the long-run, but clearly not enough to limit the game’s success.

The official Hogwarts Legacy social media accounts this week shared the news that the game has sold more than 40 million units, a staggering amount and a clear sign that a sequel is definitely on the way.

Warner Bros Sale and Potential Netflix Takeover

As you may have seen Warner Bros is currently amidst takeover talks with the likes of Netflix and Paramount Pictures.

This has been quite alarming news for Harry Potter fans as Warner Bros being acquired by another company could have big implications for the franchise going forward, including the rebooted HBO TV series

Many have also asked if a takeover could affect upcoming Warner Bros video games like a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy.

Fear not though as it’s public knowledge that the talks only include Warner Bros film and TV licensees, with its video game division being unaffected.

So if Avalanche Software is currently working on a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy it should be safe even if Netflix take over the business.

What to Expect From Hogwarts Legacy 2

The wishlist for fan-requested features is a long one for Hogwarts Legacy 2, as while the first game was solid there are a few areas that could have seen improvement.

A big one is player freedom as while you could confidently roam the halls of Hogwarts there wasn’t a whole lot to do there, and most of the game didn’t even take place within the school.

While I’d love to see Hogwarts Legacy 2 take a page out of Rockstar Games’ Bully I can’t imagine the developers will let us cause such mischief, even if it is a video game.

Realistic expectations include a larger map, perhaps separated into different areas away from Hogwarts and the surrounding area, new spells and maybe some more rideable beasts.

Those feel like the safest predictions but given the success of the first game and how much income it generated surely the sky is the limit for the sequel.
