Hogwarts Legacy 2 Live Service Stance is Just the Start, Think 'Bully Approach'

This would be great news

Rejoice, Hogwarts Legacy fans, because it looks like the sequel might not have live-service features or at least, be an MMORPG.

To say that Hogwarts Legacy 2 won't have live-service features should be a no-brainer, right? After all, the original game that launched in 2023 was a single-player game with typical in-game DLC and no live service elements.

What’s more, following the colossal flop that was Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a stain on the acclaimed Batman: Arkham series from Rocksteady Studios, you’d think that would be motivation enough for its publisher, Warner Bros. Games, to not repeat past mistakes.

Sadly, as we all know, greed can blind those who want nothing more than to consume all the money in the world and then some. Even though, logically, achieving such a trajectory of cash flow is a practically impossible concept. But this is video game publishers we’re talking about here; they’re a unique breed.

To play devil’s advocate, despite being against the idea of Hogwarts Legacy 2 having live-service elements, if implemented in the right way, dynamic seasons that impact the visual presentation of the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry could be awesome.

Not to mention, single-player and multiplayer Quidditch events could greatly benefit from such a concept in Hogwarts Legacy 2.

Let’s be real, greed will consume, and no matter how optimistic we are, our hopes and expectations won't align if microtransactions / live service elements are implemented in Hogwarts Legacy 2.

With that in mind, there has already been talk of Hogwarts Legacy 2 being a live-service game, which raises all the concerns mentioned above.

This has to be Hogwarts Legacy 2, right?

As brought to our attention by Reddit user Usual_Hedgehog5602, a job listing was spotted and detailed on the YouTube channel, Balboa Insider.

In a nutshell, the job listing in question is for an executive producer at Avalanche Software, the developer of Hogwarts Legacy, to produce “a high-quality, single player action adventure” for a “new open-world action RPG set in the Wizarding World.”

Sure, Hogwarts Legacy 2 isn't mentioned by name, but with it being for the same development studio and for a single-player game set in the Wizarding World, it sure sounds like the sequel we’ve been waiting for, and it won’t be an MMORPG.

That’s not to say it won't have live-service elements, but the fact that this suspected Hogwarts Legacy sequel is at least a single-player game is still promising nonetheless.

Reddit user mslmob123 also believes that Hogwarts Legacy 2 should take the Bully approach, the Rockstar Games title that was released in 2006, and I agree with everything they said.

“It needs to take some inspiration from the Rockstar game: Bully,” they suggested.

“Class schedules, curfews, perfect patrols. Actually, make it a school simulator rather than an exploration ground.

"I mean, obviously make exploration a thing but not the main thing.”

Of course, despite being a firm believer in there being no smoke without fire, we should still take this information with a pinch of salt until Hogwarts Legacy 2 is revealed, or at least, whatever else this game could be. We’ll keep you posted.
