Hogwarts Legacy 2's Safe Future, Netflix Stance is Clear Amid New FIFA Game

Are video games safe with Netflix? Does the company value the market? Maybe more than you think

The future of Hogwarts Legacy 2 looks to be safe following the pending investment of Netflix. That’s at least, judging by a brand new FIFA game annoucement.

Recently, the topic of Netflix’s attempted $80 billion acquisition of the troubled Warner Bros Discovery has been the talk of the entertainment industry. If this were to happen, Netflix’s library of movies, TV, video games, and much more would be blown wide open.

However, concerns were raised by the video game community following the words of Netflix co-CEO, Gregory Peters, who told investors that the gaming division of Warner Bros Discovery is “relatively minor compared to the grand scheme of things”.

Netflix Could Own Major Warner Bros Properties

Obviously, with Warner Bros. Discovery owning video game properties such as Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, Batman: Arkham, and many more, some are concerned that those franchises could be left to die if or when Netflix completes its acquisition.

That being said, in an ideal world, if Netflix acquires Warner Bros Discovery, it will support its video game properties better than ever. On the flip side, it’s also possible that it might show little interest if some franchises are not as profitable as hoped.

Yet, following the announcement that Netflix is releasing a new FIFA game next year, which is the first entry since 2022’s FIFA 23, there may be some renewed hope.

What Does This Mean for Hogwarts Legacy 2?

At the very least, it may show that Netflix is continuing its support of video games. But what could that mean for the likes of Hogwarts Legacy 2, a game that hasn't been officially announced yet?

Being optimistic, if or when Netflix acquires Warner Bros Discovery, the sequel to 2023’s Hogwarts Legacy should be a major priority compared to other video game properties under its umbrella.

For starters, Hogwarts Legacy was the best-selling game of 2023. And just this week, its social media accounts announced that the game has now sold more than 40 million units. So it makes all the sense in the world that we should get a sequel one day.

It’s worth keeping in mind that Hogwarts Legacy 2 has already been teased with suggestions that, in some part, it could be inspired by the upcoming HBO series with a modern setting, rather than the game being set in the late 1800s.

On the flip side, with a pessimistic perspective, Netflix could decide not to release Hogwarts Legacy 2 or may just release it as a free-to-play mobile game with microtransactions.

I like to think those two scenarios are very unlikely.

I guess only time will tell. As soon as we have new information on the prospective Hogwarts Legacy 2, we’ll be sure to update you ASAP.
