Hogwarts Legacy 2 Live Service Fears Return, New Hint Discovered

This can't be good

Hogwarts Legacy 2 is definitely happening and a new job listing implies it’ll feature online multiplayer, but not in the way you’d expect.

After the colossal success of Hogwarts Legacy it’s clear that another game is on the way even despite the controversy surrounding J.K Rowling and her IP.

Hogwarts Legacy 2 might even survive Warner Bros being acquired by another company as Netflix is finalising its takeover, but only for the film and TV licenses. Any video games produced by Warner Bros should be unaffected which is great news for fans of physical media.

So what can we expect from the next Hogwarts Legacy game? Aside from a bigger map and hopefully more things to do, one job listing suggests the next game will feature something the first sorely needed, multiplayer.

Multiplayer has been successfully modded into Hogwarts Legacy with players exploring the castle grounds with their friends, but it was never an official mode considered for the game.

A new job listing for Avalanche Software suggests that’ll change for Hogwarts Legacy 2 though, as the studio is currently on the lookout for a Senior Software Engineer for an online RPG.

While Hogwarts Legacy wasn’t mentioned in the listing it does classify as an RPG, meaning the listing does add up.

Now this is exciting because there’s a lot of potential in a multiplayer Hogwarts Legacy game. Something akin to Grand Theft Auto: Online but for wizards sounds like a lot of fun, and being able to duel each other or play Quidditch could be an absolute blast if done right.

However there’s one glaring issue with all of this. Avalanche Software on the hunt for multiplayer leads adds credibility to the rumour that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will be a free-to-play live-service game.

I don’t think I need to remind anyone that live-service games rely on microtransactions in order to remain online, so if the next Hogwarts Legacy game follows that format we’ll be paying for all sorts of stuff we’d previously unlocked in the first game.

Hopefully that’s not the case though as the singleplayer storyline for Hogwarts Legacy was surprisingly strong, and it’d be a shame to leave behind an actual sequel in favour of live-service.

I honestly think the comparison to Grand Theft Auto: Online would work. A singleplayer with our own character and then a separate character for the online multiplayer would make the most sense, and if the multiplayer is live-service at least players can stick to the singleplayer if they don’t vibe with it.
