God of War fans are losing it over a new leak that implies Santa Monica Studio is going to take Kratos into a new genre entirely, and it’s drawing comparisons to hit indie titles such as Hades and Blasphemous.
According to well-known leaker thisiserfan over on the ResetEra forums, the next God of War title is going to be a “small-scale” project that takes the series in a genre it’s yet to explore: Metroidvanias.
“Since we're getting closer I think it's time to share what I've known & gathered in the past few weeks”, thisiserfan noted in his post.

“The project is basically GOW X Blasphemous… It's being developed under supervision of Sony Santa Monica… Set in Greece before Kratos becomes a God… Deimos will return.”
Also, when asked if he knew who is developing the title, thisiserfan replied “Sadly no but I've heard Mega Cat Studios is involved somehow (They made FNAF: Into the Pit).”
Over on @realradec’s Twitter post reacting to news of the leak, fans seem pretty excited to hear about the new direction the franchise is headed in.
“I would love to see a God of War metrovania or action platformer maybe a beat ‘em up as a small project, that would be so cool”, commented user @ChainLightningX.

“There’s so much they can pull for the original Greek games.”
“I absolutely love Blasphemous so I’ll take a God of War x Blasphemous version”, replied user @jberr59.
Honestly, hell yeah.
I’m a God of War fan, don’t get me wrong, but I think this sounds awesome.

If you haven’t played Blasphemous before, firstly, fix that, and secondly, there were times when I couldn’t help but feel that I was actually playing as Kratos during the game.
I think the GoW combat would translate extremely well into a Metroidvania, so I very much hope that this leak is true.
