God of War meets Elden Ring in epic open world RPG freebie

Just in time for its official release date next week

You can now grab a free demo for this upcoming action-adventure RPG on multiple different platforms, and it’s already giving me some serious Elden Ring and God of War vibes.

Blades of Fire, an upcoming soulslike-esque title from developer MercurySteam, is set to release on 22 May on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC.

However, if you’re not entirely sold on dropping 40-ish pounds on a random soulslike without a proper demo, then I have some great news for you.

The demo for Blades of Fire is now available on all platforms, and the progress will carry over to the full game afterwards too.

Take a look at the game in action below.

Over on the r/Games subreddit, those who have already gotten around to giving the demo a try have nothing but positive things to say about the experience.

“I think this is a super unique and refreshing take on the souls formula with forge based gameplay where you truly have to think about everytime you swing and be methodical with your attacks,” commented user colehuesca.

“The button layout is also super unique and refreshing, can feel clunky due to the heavyness of the swings but it works! Highly recommend to try the demo.”

“Surpassed my expectations”, replied user stuckintheinbetween.

“Combat's a lot of fun, environments are beautiful and look fantastic on an OLED, the game looks very crisp on the PS5 Pro, and I'm liking what I've heard of the soundtrack. Definitely grabbing this game when it comes out.”

I’m kinda excited for this one. I know soulslikes are kind of a dime a dozen these days, but MercurySteam are a quietly consistent developer.

The player feedback for the demo also seems to be uniformly positive too, so hopefully the full game can pull off the expectations that it’s setting.

Don’t let this one pass you by, because there’s a chance it could be something truly special.
