Sony has filed a new patent for what could be the creation of AI-generated podcasts featuring various characters from its video games.
The patent, titled ‘LLM-Based Generative Podcasts for Gamers’, features scenarios in which personalised podcasts that are tailored to the user’s interests will appear on the player’s console, and may even star characters from their favourite games.
As Video Game Chronicle reports, Sony applied for the patent in July 2024, which was granted in late January 2026.
“Video game platforms currently lack the ability to provide unique and targeted content to gamers to update the gamers about things that are happening on the platform,” the patent says. “There are currently no adequate solutions to the foregoing computer-related, technological problem.”

This has resulted in a proposal for “a podcast of news” related to the user’s interests and associated data, with the podcast “presenting the news in a voice of a video game character of a video game played by the video game player”.
The type of content suggested may include news about games the player owns, recommendations for new games to try, games that are on sale, their friends’ achievements, and new updates for different games and software they own.
This is much different from having a pre-recorded podcast made available to everyone, but the content would instead be generated to be individual to each user.

Can’t say I’ve ever really wanted to hear Kratos from God of War telling me what’s going on in my favourite games, but sure, whatever.

Will Sony Implement AI-Generated Podcasts Onto PS5s?
As this is just a patent, this doesn’t necessarily mean this is something that Sony will officially implement into his PlayStation consoles.
AI-generated content has seen a lot of pushback since the patent was first filed in mid-2024, especially from the voice acting industry.
Many actors claim that AI-generated voiceovers take work away from actors, cheaply imitates them, and will lead to consent issues as characters can be made to say things the actor has not agreed to.
So, with AI-generative content already seeing the pushback that it is, I can imagine this patent may receive a similar amount of controversy should it ever evolve into a real feature coming to PlayStation consoles.
Would you listen to an AI generated podcast of your favourite PlayStation characters? I don't know why anyone would, personally.
