Oh, how Starfield shined so brightly before its launch, only to then fall into the depths of ridicule and criticism after its release. Here at GAMINGbible, we saw great potential, but not every player felt the same.

Is it any wonder, then, that Starfield has become one of the most modded games currently on the market? Many gamers expected mods to eventually dominate the game – just look at Skyrim – however, we didn’t expect it to happen so soon.

Bring Starfield to life with its live action trailer.

Bethesda’s iconic Skyrim has been out for just over 12 years, so it makes sense that the modding community is going strong there; gamers want to keep on playing, but they need new options to explore. With Starfield, the number of mods is mostly to make the game playable, which is a markedly different and more depressing reason.

You can see this attempted in the mods that graphically overhaul its experience, making the sci-fi RPG feel like a totally different game. These mods are impressive yet, as reported by GamesRadar, it’s a mixed bag to see it enter the top ten most modded games this early in the... well, game.

Still, while its modding community is one of the most interesting things about it, there are also official updates and changes coming in as well. It was only this January that a massive free download with hundreds of improvements was announced, hopefully making quality-of-life tweaks fans are desperate for.

Even before the announcements and endless stream of mods, Starfield was crowned one of Steam’s best selling games in 2023 consequently proving that the game has merit despite what the majority of disgruntled gamers are saying.

Bethesda is pulling out the stops to make Starfield work, but in the meantime, there are a wealth of mods to help make your call to adventure in space a more enjoyable and entertaining one.
